What is the Farm to Food Bank Program?

We are proud to work with farmers like you across Ontario to help divert naturally imperfect produce that would otherwise end up in landfills. 

Daily Bread Food Bank is trained in safe food handling procedures to reduce the risk of foodborne illness, and are able to manage fresh and perishable foods. Donations are protected under the provincial Good Samaritan Laws, which protect those who donate and distribute food in good faith from liability risks.

With your partnership, we can facilitate the distribution of fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables to hundreds of food programs that help neighbours facing food insecurity today.

How it works

By joining Daily Bread’s Farm to Food Bank program you’ll: 

  1. Have access to food bank resources and can call upon our team to pick up donated produce at any time. 
  2. Scheduled Donations as weekly pick-ups on a designated day or on an as-needed basis.
  3. Be eligible for a Food Donation Tax Credit. The Food Donation Tax Credit for Farmers was announced in November 2013 as an amendment to the Local Food Act by the Government of Ontario. Under the Federal Income Tax Act, this is a 25% non-refundable tax credit (based on the fair market value of agricultural products) donated by Ontario farmers to a registered charity within Ontario. 
How do I claim my tax credit?

For a farmer to claim this credit, we issue a gift-in-kind donation receipt which outlines in detail (a) the description of the product donated and (b) its fair market value.
