Today is World Food Day, an event created in 1945 by the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization to raise awareness of world hunger.
This year’s theme — “right to foods for a better life and a better future” — is especially close to our organization’s core values. We operate under the belief that food is a human right. Everyone should be able to access the food they need.
Yet around 733 million people worldwide are facing hunger due to natural disasters, global conflicts, economic downturns, and other sociopolitical issues. Over 2.8 billion people are unable to afford a healthy diet. World Food Day is an important reminder that as a global community, we must do better.
