In 2023, Daily Bread Food Bank served just under 300,000 Torontonians, equaling almost 3 million visits. Approximately ten per cent of the city, at one point or another throughout the year, turned to a food bank.
To help meet this need, we set an ambitious holiday goal of $14.5 million, as we managed one of our busiest seasons.
With our fundraising goal set, the team at the CN Tower wanted to help amplify our progress! During the month of December, the tower was lit each night as a way of highlighting our goal and tracking our progress like a thermometer.
Your support did not waver! From Community Champions raising food and funds, donors making generous donations, and volunteers donating their time – we felt the power of our city backing us in the fight to end hunger, and for that we are so thankful!
Throughout December, the CN Tower also held a campaign encouraging guests to donate a non-perishable food item or make a cash donation in support of Daily Bread. Guests would receive a 10% discount on General Admission, with the goal of filling up an entire elevator before December 24.
We’re happy to share that we didn’t just meet our goal but surpassed it with over $17.5 million in donations over the course of the holiday season.
As we see the need continue to rise – with one in ten Torontonians now relying on the use of food banks – we’re grateful for your incredible generosity in helping to provide emergency food support and for standing with us to end hunger in our city.
As a way of showing our gratitude, we recently lit up the CN Tower to highlight the impact of your support while illuminating the city.
Thank you, Toronto!
