Celebrating our volunteers at Winter Bash 2024

On December 11, Daily Bread Food Bank hosted Winter Bash 2024 to celebrate our incredible volunteers — the driving force behind our work. Without their dedication, none of what we do would be possible.

Our youngest guests were filled with holiday spirit as they enjoyed tasty treats and festive crafts. Santa even took time from his busy schedule to visit and spread holiday cheer.

Meanwhile, staff and volunteers swayed to the sounds of a live band while savouring a mouth-watering menu created by our talented chefs. From comforting classics like roast chicken to inspired seasonal dishes like cauliflower gratin, every bite reflected the warmth and care that define our community.

Adding to the festive spirit, a special raffle was held for our volunteers. Lucky winners took home an array of prizes, from stunning paintings to cozy bed sheets, making the evening even more memorable and filled with joy.

During the evening, Neil Hetherington, CEO, Daily Bread Food Bank, expressed his gratitude to the volunteers: “I am so grateful for you being here tonight, but even more so, I’m grateful for why you’re here. You have a firm commitment to the mission of Daily Bread and in that commitment, things have been really rough — one million more visits than the year before, and that can be depressing. But instead, you have chosen to do something about it.”

According to Who’s Hungry 2024, Toronto food banks saw 3.49 million client visits this past year. Thanks in large part to the thousands of individuals who volunteered, some of whom have volunteer for nearly 20 years, 38.4 million pounds of food was packed, sorted, and distributed across our member network last year to meet this soaring need.

The more than one in ten Torontonians who rely on food banks received the critical support they needed because of our volunteers’ commitment.

Together, we’re building a future where everyone has access to nutritious food.
