Once again, after a long winter, the birds are starting to sing, the sun is peeking out and the snow is finally melting. Spring has come!
So too has Daily Bread’s 2019 Spring Food Drive. This year, we have joined forces with five other food banks* across the GTA in a collaborative effort to fight hunger. Our goals are high – we need to raise 1 million dollars and 1 million pounds of food to help ensure that our neighbours across the city don’t go hungry. Every one dollar provides fresh food for one wholesome meal for a family experiencing food insecurity.
Families like Coretta’s, who is a Daily Bread Food Bank client. Having just started to build a life for herself and her family, Coretta never expected to have to pack up and fee her home country of Kenya. “We had to leave our house and start from zero,” Coretta shared. “We left everything we had. It was hard.” Coretta and her husband moved into a shelter with their toddler and turned to Daily Bread for help.
Coretta could be the person you see on the subway or pass in the street. She is your neighbour. And your support during our 2019 Spring Food Drive will help ensure that she and her family have somewhere to turn for nourishing food and a friendly smile.
“While the stories we hear from struggling neighbours can be full of challenging circumstances, it’s amazing to see how receiving fresh food can change their whole perspective,” says Neil Hetherington, Daily Bread’s CEO. “We distribute millions of pounds of healthy nutritious food across the city. But we couldn’t do that without your help. Your support is what makes such a difference to families like Coretta’s.”
Donations from the Spring Drive will mean that we can continue to provide nutritious food to those who need it most. With your help, no neighbour will go hungry in Toronto this spring.
Help us make our goals and ensure that people across Toronto have the nutritious food they need to stay healthy. Click here to donate today, organize a food drive at your work of school or drop off donations at your local fire hall or participating grocery store.
