Everything you need to know: Ontario election on February 27

The provincial election is a chance to have a say on who represents Ontario as Premier. You will also be voting for your Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), who is responsible for various issues that affect everyday life such as taxes, the economy and affordability, job skills and training, public health, food security and hunger, housing, climate change, childcare, transportation, employment and much more.  

When is election day?  

Election day has officially been called for Thursday, February 27, 2025. Polling places will be open from 9:00am – 9:00pm.  Vote at your assigned voting location. 

Am I eligible to vote?  

To vote in an Ontario election, you must be:  

  • At least 18 years of age on election day;  
  • A Canadian citizen; and  
  • A resident of Ontario.   

Visit this page to register to vote or confirm your registration status. Confirm, update or add your information to the register by February 17 to receive a voter information card in the mail with information about when and where to vote.  

Who is my candidate and what electoral district do I live in?  

Starting February 14, check out the Voter Information Service search engine provided by Elections Ontario for useful information about your electoral district, including the list of candidates, locations of advance and election day polling places, the address of your local Elections Ontario office and a map of your electoral district. You can input your postal code or electoral district and the system generates the information relevant to you.  

There are four official parties: The Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, the Ontario New Democratic Party, the Ontario Liberal Party, and the Green Party of Ontario.   

You can tune in on any major news outlet or the parties’ websites to hear what the party leaders have to say about the issues that impact you.   

How can I make an impact?  

To end food insecurity and poverty, we need government to enact strong policies to tackle the systemic root causes of food insecurity through adequate social assistance, affordable housing, health care and a strong social safety net.
