On November 29, the CPKC Holiday Train chugged into town on a mission to raise funds to help those experiencing food insecurity this holiday season. Hundreds of families gathered to welcome Santa and witness the spectacular 1,000-foot train, illuminated with sparkling lights and festive decorations, as it made its grand entrance at the station.
The celebration was filled with excitement as JUNO nominee Shawnee Kish and multi-platinum artist Tyler Shaw delivered captivating live performances, spreading cheer and joy throughout the crowd.
Santa Claus added extra magic to the evening, delighting children and families as they lined up to snap photos with fun props and share their holiday wishes. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow also joined the festivities, warmly greeting attendees and enjoying the holiday atmosphere.
A heartfelt thank you goes to CPKC for their incredible $15,000 donation and to Toronto Fire Services for serving up sweet treats and hot chocolate generously provided by Tim Hortons, ensuring everyone stayed cozy and warm.
Lastly, we are deeply grateful to all attendees whose kindness helped Daily Bread raise an additional $3,412 and gather an impressive 1,712 pounds of food to support families in need.
With every dollar or pound of food donated equalling one meal, the funds raised will provide over 20,000 meals for the more than one in ten Torontonians who rely on food banks for emergency food access.
