Four Thanksgiving drives that inspired us this year

At Daily Bread Food Bank, we’re continually moved by the incredible ways our community comes together to support our mission of fighting hunger in Toronto. This past month, we’ve seen extraordinary generosity from corporate partners, volunteers, and individual donors alike. Here’s a look at some of the recent initiatives making a real difference in our city.

Purolator’s Red Bag Campaign

In partnership with Purolator, the community came together to donate an astounding 40,923 pounds of food through the Red Bag campaign! This achievement represents the highest total in the campaign’s history — equivalent to 40,923 meals for families across Toronto. Over two weekends, a dedicated team of volunteers and Daily Bread staff distributed and collected 25,000 bags citywide. This accomplishment showcases the power of collective action, and we thank everyone who made it possible!

Hullmark’s Summer in September Party

We’re thrilled to share that Hullmark, a real estate investment and development firm, raised an astonishing $178,221 during their Summer in September party. This includes a remarkable $100,000 donation from the Hull family, marking the third consecutive year they’ve supported Daily Bread. Thanks to Hullmark—and to everyone who contributed raffle prizes—we’re able to continue providing critical resources to those in need. We’re so grateful to have such committed allies in the fight to end hunger.

Junction Residents Association

The Junction Residents Association (JRA) recently held its biannual food drive, uniting the community to support those in need this Thanksgiving. Over 40 dedicated volunteers blanketed doorsteps in the city’s west end with donation bags, ready to be filled with non-perishable food items. The following week, Daily Bread staff and volunteers collected an impressive 15,426 lbs of food and over $1,665 in cash donations, with more contributions still arriving! A special thanks to Cintas for granting JRA the use of their parking lot for donation drop-offs. This remarkable effort highlights the generosity of our neighbours, and we are deeply appreciative of the JRA and all who contributed.

Toronto Flower Market at TD Centre

On September 26, the Toronto Flower Market at TD Centre Courtyard raised an impressive $9,561.40 for Daily Bread Food Bank, selling out 300 buckets of fresh blooms from local growers in just an hour and a half. We’re so grateful to everyone who purchased flowers to support Daily Bread, as well as those who donated canned goods on-site. Your generosity helps ensure that more families have access to the food they need, especially as Thanksgiving approaches, and for that, we thank you.

We’re deeply grateful to the donors and volunteers that made these events possible and for supporting Daily Bread. Their hard work will go directly toward our ambitious (but essential) Thanksgiving drive goals of raising $4.6 million and 200,000 lbs by October 31.
