St. Felix Centre is a Daily Bread Member Agency that has been providing support to some of the most marginalized individuals in Toronto’s downtown core, including people experiencing homelessness, extreme poverty, food insecurity, as well as mental health & addiction challenges since the late 1930’s!
With so many programs and services closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, St. Felix Centre has become a beacon of light and hope for Toronto. They have been able to keep their doors open to all those in need of food, love, and compassion, serving 22,000 meals a month, by constantly adapting their programs to respond to the alarming increase in demand for their services.
They also work to preserve the strong bond between guests and their four-legged friends, by creating a 100% pet friendly space! They never want people to have to decide between accessing basic needs like having a roof over their head or staying with their best pals. Through their P.A.W.S Program, guests can access all of their services and sites with their furry families and, are provided with the opportunity to apply for veterinary care, neutering, prescription medications, food, and other treatments and items for their pets. Throughout the pandemic, this has allowed them to open their doors to many people who otherwise would not have been able to access supports in the city.
“COVID-19 has brought homelessness to the forefront. The economic fragility has affected many people through job losses and business closures. More than ever, it has become clear that homelessness, food insecurity, and the consequential mental health challenges as a result of these circumstances can happen to anyone.”
