Volunteers are an invaluable part of the team at Daily Bread Food Bank, and without them our work would not be possible. Especially over the past year as we continue to face challenges and respond to the impact that COVID-19 has had on our communities.
One volunteer who has stepped up and become a crucial part of our operations as we’ve shifted our work, is Aldo, who began volunteering with us a month before the pandemic hit Toronto, and hasn’t missed a shift since.
Even before COVID-19, Aldo could see the need for food in his community increasing, and decided that Daily Bread was the best place to give his time and energy. He has since worked on our production floor sorting inbound food donations, and in the warehouse picking orders to be sent to our agencies.
“When you’re here in the warehouse, everyone is the same, it’s a community all working towards one goal. I’ve had the chance to see all aspects of the operations and how things have changed this past year. When we were packing emergency hampers, you see what people need to eat for three days, and you realize how important it is to be here”
We are incredibly grateful for not only all the work that Aldo does for us, but for the passion he has for making positive spaces in his community and supporting his neighbours experiencing food insecurity and poverty.
“You can do little things to help people in a big way. Even the smallest actions by one person, can make a huge difference in someone else’s life”
On behalf of the entire team at Daily Bread Food Bank, thank you for your support and commitment to our cause Aldo! We are truly grateful for all of your hard work, and willingness to give back – we couldn’t do it without you!
