Daily Bread Food Bank believes that food is a human right and we have adopted a rights-based approach to the work we do. Part of this is ensuring people have the agency to make choices about the foods they are eating in a dignified manner. However, due to COVID-19 we had to shift from our shopping model to pre-packed hampers due to public health physical distancing guidelines.
Our incredible team of staff and volunteers have been working hard to move our New Toronto Street Food Bank back indoors.
By implementing necessary safety measures, we have been able to ensure that our community’s right to food is realized while staying safe.
A survey done by our programs team found that almost an equal number of clients preferred receiving prepacked hampers instead of the shopping model, and so we now serve the community five days a week, in doors at our New Toronto Street Food Bank.
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, clients can come to the food bank by appointment only to shop for the foods they would like, and on Thursdays we have a drop-in for those who prefer to pick up pre-packed hampers.
